About the university
Recently awarded the prestigious accolade of the University of the Year for Graduate Employment by the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide, the University had been seeking a solution for the UoS students who faced barriers in the graduate labour market and as such were unable to secure a placement in industry as part of their degree. Many of these students were from international or disadvantaged backgrounds and as such had less social capital than other students.
How InternMatch help with their mission
Accordingly, the Employability and Careers team introduced the InternMatch program to assist students in transitioning to a Professional Training Year (PTY) or at the other end of the student journey to help them get a foothold into the labour market. Frances Gow, Head of Employability and Careers at the University of Surrey, said — “We have a mission to develop talented and highly sought-after global students and graduates. We’re delivering on that through excellence in employability, career management skills and entrepreneurship support, supported by practice-centred learning, our award-winning placement service and the creation of opportunities with local, national and international employers.”

About the university
The University of Adelaide is a globally recognised leading research university with four campuses across Australia. It is consistently ranked in the top 1% of the world’s universities and has five Nobel Laureates for their work in developing ground-breaking research.
How InternMatch help with their mission
They introduced our Work Integrated Learning internship program and welcomed InternMatch as one of their preferred suppliers to University of Adelaide international students. Since introducing InternMatch’s remote student internship program, the university’s overall course satisfaction went from a SELTS (Student Experience of Learning and Teaching) rating of 4.4 before engaging InternMatch to a 5.8 SELTS rating after only the first semester of InternMatch being involved. The 5.8 rating is now also above the overall University average with the growth achieved after only one semester.
Additionally, we received a wealth of positive feedback from students from the semester’s student evaluations, praising the program’s “organisation and extensive list of resources”. Other feedback included “exceptionally well done, thus leaving most questions answered” and that it gave students “a better understanding of [my] industry and helped me to gain real working experience.” In the first semester of partnership, InternMatch boosted the University of Adelaide’s student satisfaction for internships by 35% with further improvements being implemented consistently.
Got
questions?
What is an internship (also know as a Work Placement or Practicum)?
A work placement is essentially a way to help a student transition from study to work. It is an incredibly powerful way for students and graduates to apply their learning and gain an understanding of what is needed in the working world.
Work Placements allow students and graduates to further develop their skills and provide valuable experience that will assist in gaining meaningful employment in their field of study.
Our Programs allow for your students to complete a compliant work placement either as part of curriculum or in addition to their official studies.

What type of internships do you offer?
We adapt our Work Placements to meet the needs of individuals Schools, Faculties and Universities.
Having said that, we find the most popular models are:
10-12 week individual Internship which is usually 20 hours per week part-time (can also be full time)
10-12 week group internship in a group that is usually between 10-20 hours per week.
The individual Work Placements are generally undertaken by the students and graduates who are ready to be inserted into a business and can begin to operate independently and contribute to a team relatively quickly.
For the students that don’t quite yet have the confidence to undertake a solo internship, they usuall select to undertake the Group Internship pathway. The Group Internships are still with real businesses working on real business projects although come with the support of a professional mentor.
In a post COVID world, Work Placements can either be on premises in the companies office, fully remote or a hybrid and a mix of in the office and working remotely. We now find that students embrace having this flexibility.
Does InternMatch guarantee a Work Placement for all students?
Yes, we pride ourselves on being able to place every student/graduate who wants to undertake a work placement with us, with a placement that is chosen by the Student. We don’t force students into placements. We give them choice and let them choose.
